Not only is translation of poetry an effective method of teaching poerty in a proper historical context, but also it enhances students acquisition of knowledge about realities of life in foreign countries and different cultures, not to mention the fact that it improves their linguistic competences in both the source and the target languages. What is important, translation is a holistic method, forcing students to think independently.
Towards a tanslatological study of multilinguism : translating the insertion of dialect within contemporary Italian narrative into French

This PhD thesis examines Italian contemporary literary works (novels and short stories) in which dialect is used as a linguistic variety in combination with the national Italian idiom. The analysis is conducted through the works of four Italian writers, in which multilingualism is particularly significant: Andrea Camilleri, Salvatore Niffoi, Laura Pariani and Andrej Longo. This paper puts forward a reflection threaded from my experience as a literary translator, in particular translating contemporary Indian transcultural literature. In translation, linguistic options always involve ethical models. As a translator, I try not to naturalize any difference, I try not to deprive readers of the otherness that comes from reading, that, in linguistic and culturally rich texts, opens up a door to diversity, understood as a value. Śląski niemieckojęzyczny autor – Arnold Zweig – zajmował się do końca swojego życia traumatycznym okresem I wojny światowej i napisał wiele dzieł poświęconych tej tematyce. Artykuł ten w pierwszej kolejności prezentuje zainteresowanie osobą Arnolda Zweiga w Polskiej Republice Ludowej oraz opisuje recepcję tłumaczeń jego powieści autorstwa nieżyjącej już tłumaczki Wandy Kragen. W drugiej części niniejszej publikacji autorka skupia się na scharakteryzowaniu powieści „Junge Frau von 1914“ (Młoda kobieta z roku 1914).

Im Beitrag wird Gérard Granels "introduction“ zu seiner "traduction" von Heideggers "Was heißt Denken?" vorgestellt, die Ende der Fünfzigerjahre in Zusammenarbeit mit dem deutschen Aloys Becker entstand und 1959 erstmalig bei den Presses Universitaires de France erschien. Dieser sprachlich und gedanklich bemerkenswert dichte Übersetzungskommentar Granels ist im Hinblick auf die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von Theorie und Praxis des Übersetzens, die als Frage nach der Möglichkeit einer Überwindung gestellt wird, umso aufschlussreicher, als bereits die heideggersche Vorlage wesentlich um den Zusammenhang von Denken und Übersetzen, Sprachmaterialität und Sinnschöpfung kreist.

The paper looks at the Latvian translation scene at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. It is a continuation of the study of translation history in Latvia reflected in previous issues of Vertimo studijos (vol. 7, 8, 11). Alejandro Cioranescu's work (1911-1999) as a researcher in Comparative Literature was developed in Spain since the fifties. Cioranescu is not only author of the first modern manual of Comparative Literature written in Spanish but his interest in this discipline issues (exchanges, contacts, translation) remained present over more than four decades in his Spanish bibliography. This work recovers one of the Romanian philologist article that may well be seen as his ideal for literary translation.

Biorąc za punkt wyjścia perspektywe historyczną oraz ewolucje kultury translacji w Polsce od lat 20. XX wieku az po czasy wspolczesne, autorka analizuje stopniową zmiane paradygmatu w odniesieniu do roli i znaczenia przekladu literackiego. W dalszej cześci zostaje podjeta refleksja na temat wybranych lingwistycznych i estetycznych kryteriow oceny jakości przekladu, w celu zbadania, na ile produktywne moze okazac sie podejście interdyscyplinarne w tym zakresie. Szczegolowej analizie zostają poddane kryteria oceny jakości tlumaczenia zaproponowane przez Sigrid Kupsch-Losereit pod wzgledem mozliwości ich zastosowania do przekladow tekstow literackich.
